Mak would understand - the full story

This post is not intended for anyone, although it may have been sparked by someone.

Mak would understand

  1. why I need to spend for my lingerie at Marks & Spencer instead of 10-ringgit-bra-sizes-only-up-to-CupC at Jusco.
  2. the change in behaviour during monthly bleeds.
  3. what a big slap it is in the face when you have endometriosis and you're faced with the possibilities of infertillity.
  4. that washing dishes all day long will aggravate your back pain and worsens your slipped disc.
  5. if you don't feel like doing it, then don't do it.
  6. how annoying and frustrating it is to have to do the house chores on your own because everyone else moves too slow or worse, ignorant towards it.
  7. there are times when you just wanna be rude and be alone and this happens not because you ask for it but because the worst pain in the world, besides child birth, is churning down your pipes.
  8. the importance of chocolates.
  9. that when you go to someone's house and you want to leave early, not because you hate them but you have tons of house chores waiting back home.
  10. and giggles when I talk about him.
  11. that all women need to shop, no matter how little you will spend, and even if it's at the pasar malam or at some DIY store.
  12. my preference to buy groceries at a supermarket because they have everything on one floor and they provide trolleys.
  13. why I need a special room for my clothes and shoes, only.
  14. the importance of arriving at the mall before 10am on sale day.
  15. that before marriage, I need to be excused for me-time when he calls.
  16. how I need her to be beside me during my akad nikah.
  17. how frustrated I can be when others are bitchy to me, and she would give them a piece of her mind.
  18. that it is a life-requirement for you to look good when you step out of the house.
  19. that one can never have too many baju kurungs.
  20. why sometimes the aircond should not be turned off.
  21. why you just need to splurge on that gorgeous handbag.
  22. my inner desire to flirt with that hot guy, in silence of course.
  23. that we tend to have difficulty in falling asleep because we tend to think of who will take care our loved ones when we're gone.
  24. that we should never accept anyone bullying us; be it at school, at work, in life from anyone at all.
  25. and applaud if I fight back to those bitches.
  26. what I want to eat when I'm sick, without me informing her.
  27. that sometimes, I really hate men and I want to kill them.
  28. how stupid people affects you in a way that you want to kick them and walk away quickly.
  29. I rather not walk in a hot weather and ruin my shoes/clothes/hair(previously)/tudung(now)/make-up.
  30. me from far away, eventhough we are parted by continents.

Mak would simply understands.

Perfect's Imperfections

Either we are the culprit or the victim. And sometimes, even both. We all have been through it, annoying and annoyed. But almost everyone does it unintentionally (well, maybe more on unaware with intentions) until someone points it out.

For me, I'm guilty for both. Filled with unexplained emotions, my best argument would be seeking for attention. I am a Libran, after all. My main question is, for me and you, is how do we really manage it? What should be done about it? I've found myself easily annoyed with family, especially my parents and the devil inside seems to whisper that they should know better not to annoy me (nowhere near the humble pie - sad).

But what do you do? They're your parents, after all. At times, I find myself trying to restraint from replying with a slightly raised voice. You may however psyche your mind to behave with the reminder not to fury Allah S.W.T. by hurting your parents.

Your loved one? Him? Her? Any solution to that? What if the level of annoying hits ground zero and both get fed up and resulted to be in silence, in the so-called attempt to achieve serenity? And even worst, something bad happens after you've said goodbye/goodnight and that silly frustration was all you ever have of your last moment together. Not a good picture eh?

Therefore, I'm telling this not just to you readers but to myself.

Giving in to stop a fight or a moment of frustration does not mean you're weak, it just says you cherish and value his/her imperfections.

Daddy's daily requirement

Must have. Apparently, I'm the only one who does it best. Apparently la.

1. Water used must be boiling hot. Literally when the kettle's light turned off, immediately put it in the mug with the tea bag.

2. Close the lid, and wait for a while. Best colour is when it gets dark.

3. Mix enough with milk and pull until the bubbles become frothy.

4. To know whether you've done it right, the bubbles stays for quite some time. If it starts to evaporate, then there's too much milk.

Of covering aurah and medical check-ups

Obviously, I had no qualms about this before. Never even crossed my mind to be worry about such things.

But since my hijrah, I realised that I do think about it and take into consideration earlier. But somehow, I don't know, maybe due to the culture and surrounding (which is just a reason actually) that I find myself a bit slow to ensure that my aurah is covered during medical check-ups.

The other day when I had to do an X-ray scan, I completely forgot that I will need to be naked under the hospital's robe. Which is fine if the robe has long sleeves but that's not the case in Malaysia. The sleeves are short. Damn. What should I do? In the panic of making the radiographer guy wait (yes, which made me even more panicky) I quickly went out the changing room because I didn't want to make him wait. So stupid of me. I should have made sure that I was comfortable enough to step out, instead I thought of his feelings because I didn't want to delay his work. Sigh.

And that day I wore a chiffon shawl which it went around and around my head, not the usual sarung-and-go hijab. Since there can be no metal, I had to take off the shawl. Now, when I think about it, I could have just taken off the metal pins and put on the shawl. But nooooo, I didn't. I'm so mad at myself now :(

So, what did I finally wore? The short-sleeve hospital robe and my inner which only covered my hair but not neck. Ya Allah, forgive me. I should have been more aware and prepared.

Few days after that, I went back to do my MRI. I even brought along my long-sleeve inner to wear so that they may cover my arms. I felt like slapping my head, hard. I didn't wear it. I don't know why but I didn't. But I did wear a proper hijab, so that's covered. But my arms weren't :(

With my healthcare background (I used to work in the hospital) and previous current experience, let me share some tips (which is also pointing to myself as well) on what hijabis and muslimahs need to be extra cautious of when they're at the clinic/hospital:

  • It doesn't matter if you're wearing abaya or everyday clothes, you are required to don the hospital's robe during medical consultation/X-ray scan/MRI scan and other procedures. Bring a long sleeve top/inner that you can wear inside the robe. If you're doing a whole body procedure, then bring a loose pants, just in case.
  • Don't forget your socks! Since there's no metal required there, there's no reason for you to not wear it. Unless, the procedure is at your feet or toes.
  • Wear hijabs/tudungs that you can put on without the need to use pins. Bring also a small one that covers your hair and neck, just in case.
  • Since we are not VIPs or dignitaries that can specifically request for everyone helping us to be females, there will be males who will be assisting you or present during the procedure. Make sure you are wary of this and just inform them if you are not comfortable with their presence and prefer to have a female nurse instead.
  • Leave fancy schmancy inner wear such as bras and knickers with any metal details. Metals interrupt any scan process so save yourself the embarrassment and opt for comfy cotton ones.

It is true that in some circumstances especially in medical, women are allowed to expose their aurah in seeking treatment for their health. But I feel, let's not take this simply and easily. Let's try very hard to take care of our aurah, no matter what.

OMB - Oh my back!

My cries and agony of back pain since last year was caused by a disc slipped in between L4 and L5. It is also called Herniated Lumbar Disc. Lumbar section lies at the end of our back bone, hence why it's called 'L'. As I look at the MRI images, I was amazed at "How in the world it could become like that?"

Just some images that I found on the web on my condition (I couldn't upload my MRI images, files are too hu-u-ge):

See the spot where it spilled over? That's causing the pain.
Even looking at this feels painful.
Ouchie!
Different conditions that may affect you.

All images are taken from Google Images

For the treatment, I have to go for physiotherapy. If pain persists or worsens, I have to do spinal injection. If no improvement... well, let's not think about that for now. Relief that immediate surgery is not an option, yet.

I do strongly advocate to those who have been suffering from any pain, doesn't have to be solely on backpain, please do see a doctor and do a full check-up, not just do an X-ray scan. Yes, it may thins your wallet or bank account but the important thing is to get it diagnosed and seek treatment so you know what not to do to worsens it.

Whatever it is, I am grateful and thankful to Allah for this rezeki. Yes, you read it right. I see this as a rezeki for me to think of Him more, to slow down in life, to do more ibadah and to really take care of myself.

Positive thinking is always the best medicine to recovering :)

Empowering Muslimahs (Women are HIGHLY valued in the eyes of Allah) - Part 2

Me, being a human, was starting to feel sleep at this point of time. With the great lunch, great company and of course, the amazing feeling of attending the conference (which of course, I never would have imagine doing so 10 years ago), my eyes started to drop bit by bit. Work of shaiton, defnitely, jiggling their asses on my eyelids.
Me. Be Me. Geddit? Be ME!
But I quickly woke up when the next speaker was introduced. Dr. Fadila Grine reminded me the jamaahs that I met during my umraa, she makes you feel you just wanna go up to her and hug her tightly. Some of her highlights were,

"What is our idea of change? We need to feel the fear."

"Negatively, fear the fear. Positively, fear Allah."

"Allah created us but we make ourselves."

"Responsible for ourselves first, only then to others."

"Hijab is not hiding you, hijab is meant to hide your aurah only."

"Change is real, it's not magical. Our nature is adventurous, just look at a 5-year old."

"The history of Islam during the 6th and 7th century should be referred to as our inspirations."

"Shaiton has a goal, to bring us away from our faith. So why don't WE have a goal as well?"

"If you have to change but you don't change, Allah will punish you."

"Nabi Muhammad SAW recite Astagfirullahalazim 100 times, to invite rahmat to come."

"Change to alleviate our relationship with Allah."

"Disbelieve to believe, decide on a clear goal."

"Two Arabic words to take note of; iradaa which means strong wind and azima which means strong desire."

"Take away bad habits like they are parasites."

At this point, my spirits were heightened. I grew determined to write out my goals and try to reach them. It doesn't need to be big and ambitious. Start with small ones, like to ensure to perform prayer within 30minutes after the azan. I think that can help us in not delaying our prayers, don't you think?

Next session was to me, the main highlight of the day. Even with my awe for Sis. Yasmin, nothing can topple the next speaker. Sis. Raya Shokatfard's video documentary brought tears to me. An Iranian, she migrated to the States at a young age and was quickly consumed with chasing worldly materials. She was very successful, she even got to drive Rolls Royce in her early 20s which at that time, is huge. But sadly, she looked to other religions to soothe her anxiety in heart. Hinduism, Buddhism, New Age and Christianity influenced her and took her away from Allah. But she never did convert. She just got lost and decided to really learn on the religions. What she was seeking for, only her and Allah has the answer. But imagine being lost for so long and when she found the Quran, it was like a child who had been lost and found his/her mother and the child refuses to let go, afraid of being lost again. That was who I felt when I rediscovered my true identity, as a Muslimah. I was already crying a bucket here. I will remember the feeling that strucked me when she said,

"We always tend to forget Allah, but Allah never forget or leaves us."

Masya-Allah. Such an overwhelming feeling.

Sheikh Tawfique stepped on the stage to talk on his current project and he mentioned this:

Those in Jannah keeps asking those in Jahanaam, "Why are you in hell?" They will reply, "We did not pray and we did not feed the poor."

Finally, Sis. Yasmin took the stage again as the final speaker. I knew I was in for a comprehensive ending before the Maghrib break. And I was right. Some of her highlights were,

"There are 2 places that we can hold a gift; our hands and our heart."

"He pardons most."

"The one who mends, can mend it if you seek it."

"Things that we love more than God will kill us."

"Ask the following questions; What do you think about most? What makes you cry? What makes you most angry? What is the first thing you think in the morning? What is the last thing you think at night? What keeps you up at night? What do you think about in your prayers? Did you answer God? Or something else?"

"We forget that when we don't pray, we harm not our parents, friends or loved ones... We only harm ourselves."

"Ignoring the reality does not mean it will not happen."

"Nothing will stop Death."

"Nothing will delay The Day of Judgement."

"It is not good to love creations over Creator."

I didn't stay on until the end as the event will only finish at 10, that's a bit too late for me who stays 40minutes away. So I dropped off my girlfriend and headed back home to my cat, with a new burst of excitement in me. A light, a fire that cannot and will not be put off. I hope that by sharing what I learned at the conference will help all and myself included to be a better Muslim/Muslimah and even closer to Him, insyaAllah.

Empowered!

Empowering Muslimahs (Girls Rule in Islam!) - Part 1

I am so thankful that I decided to attend the Being ME Conference. I couldn't attend Twins of Faith earlier so when I heard about this conference, I rushed to be the early bird. With the line up of amazing speakers, especially Sis. Yasmin Mogahed, I counted the days to this event. It was my second religious event, the first one I attended quite some time ago organised by the Youth Muslim Project in Bangsar, the Sheikh gave a talk on the 'Beauty of Jannah'. From then, I was hooked. I knew I wanted and was so thirsty for more Islamic talks/events in English. I realized that I responsed well to it as it's in a language that is dear to me. I said, "That's it... I'm gonna attend more talks in English and try to find books on Islam that are in English as well".

Buzzing away
TudungPeople's Najwaa in Cream and Limited Edition Azraa Collection, Kitschen's hot pink blazer, Thepoplook's Empire Maxi Combo dress in mustard and my beloved 'H' bag bought in Ipoh.

Allah is Almighty. It turns out that most of us don't hate to attend religious events, they just hate hearing the speakers repeat YOU WILL ALL ENTER HELL. Of course, I do agree that when we do wrong, there are repercussions to it. But isn't it better for you to concentrate on the good things of Islam, only then it will be easier for you to practise it? Because you're not scared of it, but because you really want to? I see heads nodding in agreement. So if there's any news on religious events in English, I will definitely let you all know.

So back to the conference. As it was beautifully arranged with the amazing speakers and there's so much of points and highlights that I want to share, I will divide the post into Part 1 and Part 2.

Sheikh Tawfique Chowdury started off with his opening speech. His highlight was,

"Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas 10 times, and Allah will build you a palace in Jannah."

*jawdrops*

Next (I was trying hard not to jump up and down on my seat), was Sis. Yasmin Mogahed's turn to speak. Words cannot express how amazing she is and how she plays with words to show how beautiful Islam is, from her point of view. Click here to visit her official website and read her articles, especially.

She talked on how the world has mould our perception to how a female should dress and how they are looked in the eyes of the public. Some of her highlights were,

"Muslim women have God as their standards."

"Completion comes from God, and how our relationship is to Him."

"Only God is our saviour, not our companion."

"You don't own an image."

"The story starts at the marriage; the building of sacrifice, love and your path back to Him."

"If you're chasing a feeling, you'll always be chasing."

"Love what He loves, and do not love what He doesn't love."

Just before we had our lunch break, Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim stepped on the stage for his session. He. Is. So. Funny. He pointed out that the Western countries were worried whether the wife of the newly-elected Egypt President Mursi will shake hands with President Obama. Of all the world crisis and people are dying every second, this was what they were worried about. Which is so true of this world. Appearance matters. Tsk tsk tsk.

Anyways, back to his highlights,

"We are comprised of 3; aqal, roh and physical."

"Soul is thirsty for Islam."

"Are we curious and interested to know the meaning of Quran?"

"Iman can be tarnished, make doa to Allah instantly to reignite your interest and iman."

"If your heart breaks not for Allah, then it's a shame."

"Believe in Allah is in your heart."

"Never will Allah allow someone to remain unchallenged for a long period of time."

"Your heart can be hurt by others, and it can be hurdled away from Allah."

"Always think of Allah and Prophet Muhammad PBUH truthfully and honestly, and your needs will be fulfilled, insyaAllah."

Wow. Felt like a huge wake-up call.

The best thing that this conference featured were booths outside the hall. Obviously, being women it is naturally for us to drop by the booths and shop. Man, I went crazy ok. One of the booth and they were also one of the sponsors, Dakwah Corner Bookstore and they had all these books on Islam and they were all in ENGLISH! Bought one for daddy, sis, myself and him as well.

*happy*happy*happy*

Me and my girls had a long lunch since there was a long queue and by the time we finished Dhuhr, the first afternoon session was ending. To hear the highlights of the next speaker, check out Part 2.

Allahu Akbar!

Even if...

Since my journey started two years back in becoming closer to Allah S.W.T., I realised there are so many world-ly things that are not thatttt important at all. I used to check out myself everytime I walk past by a shop where I can see my reflection, always and constantly aware of what people might think of me. Oh, and don't get me started what I would wear when I'm downright lazy. Sweatpants? Yes. Worn and have-not-seen-the-waching-machine T-shirts? Yes. BUT my hair must always be neat, will always put some talcum powder on my face to make it look brighter and not oily and just that tiny bit of gloss. And when there's time, light mascara as well.

And what I used to wear for my beach vacay? Ugh. *cringe*

So you see, when I started going through these changes and realised how vain I was for the sake of humankind and not for my creator, it really did put a big slap on my face.

I still remember these words clearly when I went to Michael Buble's concert in Malaysia back in March 2011;

"Now I want everyone to get up and just dance. Look to the person next to you, on your left and your right. In front and at the back. You're not gonna meet them tomorrow or next year. Heck, they won't even remember you. So just get up and dance when you feel like it."

That. Echoes in my head. Till now. He's right. Who cares if people look at you? Well, that's the darnedest thing. We do care. And it has been so hard to not care. I  guess the reason being is that we see these people but we don't see God. It goes back to how strong how faith really is.

In light of this, I came up with an "Even if" list that I think helped me quite a lot. I hope it will also help you as well.

Even if...

- my hair is downright ugly and matted and there's no bounce or life or shine after I've taken off my hijab at the end of the day, I know that my hair will be extremely gorgeous in Jannah, more beautiful than any human can ever imagine BECAUSE I covered my aurah for Allah SWT.

- my armpits and all sorts of folded area of my body is sweaty and uncomfortable from wearing modest clothes that are of think material, I know that I will feel the coolness of the wind, more cool than any air-conditioner mankind in the hereafter will ever make BECAUSE I covered my aurah for Allah SWT.

- I am seen as not cool due to I can't speak any foreign language fluently or talks in such a oh-she's-so-chic manner, I know the only words that I need to know by heart (for now) is the three main questions that will be asked in Arabic once you are buried and those attending your funeral walks away to leave you with His Angels, Mungkar and Nangkir BECAUSE I want to be accepted by His side and enter Jannah.

To further elaborate on this, please refer to the following excerpt. Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

With great strength and a deep voice, they ask these 3 questions:

"Man Rabbuka" meaning "Who is your Lord?"

"Maa Deenuka" meaning "What is your religion?"

"Maa kunta taqul fee hajr rajl" meaning "What did you use to say about this person?"

And you should answer,

"Rabballah" meaning "My Lord is Allah"

"Deenil Islam" meaning "My religion is Islam"

"Huwa Rasulullahi Sallahualahi Wassalam" meaning "This is Allah's Messenger, He has been embraced with Allah Ta'ala's Mercy, greetings to him"

Then, a Voice from the skies will be heard saying,

"My servant has said the truth. Lay the tablecloth of Paradise for him. Give him clothes from Paradise to wear and open the doors of Jannah for him." The cool air and the sweet fragrance of Jannah will continue to come and wherever the eyesight can reach, the grave will be made wide and large. Angels will say, "Sleep like a groom sleeps."

How can we not the amazing-ness of this? Wouldn't you want this to happen to you when you leave this world? I want! And I'm chasing my very best to achieve this. However, I must also highlight to those who are not able to answer the questions, subhanAllah.

For the sinful, there will be punishment according to their sins, this will continue for a time. Then, from the prayers of the pious or from "Esaale Sawaab" (good acts performed by people for the dead's forgiveness) or from prayers for their forgiveness or simply from the Mercy of Allah Ta'ala, this punishment will stop. Then, there will be a relaxation.

If the dead is a Kaafir, then he will not be able to answer the questions and will say,

"Haa Haa Ladri" meaning "Shame for I know nothing"

Now a caller will shout, "He is a liar, lay the table-cloth of fire for him, and give him clothes of fire to wear and open the doors of Hell for him, from which the heat of Hell will reach him."

There will be two Angels allocated to him to give him punishment and will hit him with great, big hammers. Big scorpions and snakes will also bite him. All different kinds of punishment will continue until the Day of Resurrection.

Masya Allah, I pray that none of our brothers or sisters or our parents and loved ones have to go through this.

And finally, the one thing that I've put on my "Even if" list is that I am now more acceptive towards death as I fear more of Allah SWT and the sins that I have done in the past. However, I have accepted that dying is just a long holiday (whether it will be pleasant or a torment depends on our sincerity in our deeds) until the time comes for all of us to be united.

Let us start to equip ourselves for the hereafter. Let us start to collect rations that will help us in lightening our punishment. Let us put our life and the world today at number 2 and bring our religion to number 1. Insya-Allah.

Bubis International (and Ds as well!)

Yeah, you read it right. Bubis or Boobies. That's what we call each other, me and my girls. Obviously we have them, so why not use it to full advantage? LOL.

Who's the D then? Aaaahhhhh.... I let you figure that one out *smirk*

Meeting point was Coffee Bean, Pavilion. Our butts were hardened from 11am till 5pm, I think. I bet we got the most hate-stares when customers came in through the door and saw that we conquered all 6 tables.

I used to have this, Brek-O-Day quite frequently when I was with Prince Court. Miss those times!
Feels like acknowledging these faces as the original bubis.
Ni la my mon petit chou!

Love this pic!

Mmy Sabrina (Lola) came in with her sister, Shazia. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! I still remember Shazia when she was in her white baju kurung and blue kain, coming back from school and picking fights with her big sis :)

Lovelies :)
Then came Nisa, hubby and our junior whom apparently knows us and thinks we're cool (hahaha) but sadly none of us, ME ESPECIALLY remembers him. Sorry dude, now we know who you are.

Where were the Ds? Gentlemen-ly they obliged to be the photographers. Aahhh bless them.
Finally, Fizan & Atee arrived with baby Faith. Masya-Allah!!! She's so effing adorable! Dah macam baby Jopun!

Hey... we tried our very best. It was her first time meeting us okay.
Can't believe you're a dad now la Abah...
We finally made a move. Wish we had more time but as cliché as it is, everyone of us have own lives to lead. So till next time, we hope that we can have a bigger gathering with more heads and little heads to join in, insya-Allah.

What I wore:

Inner neck: Salmon pink from pasar malam
Top: Grey wool from Marks & Spencer
Skirt: Salmon pink chiffon from EDZ
Shoes: Beige Blossoms Wedge Pumps from EDZ
Tote: White woven from Baggirl Inoskia

Have a good Monday everyone!

Are you a weird freak?

What's you weirdest freaky-deaky?

No. It ain't what you're thinking so bring down your eyebrows. What I meant with freaky-deaky is your habits or obsessions that make you a freak to others but it's actually normal.

Elementary Watson!

Let's look at the definition, shall we?
Habit: an acquired behaviour pattern regularly followed until it has become almost involuntary.

Obsession: the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc.
- taken from www.dictionary.com

If you've seen Friends, you would know that Monica has the most freak-deaky characters, especially on clealiness, so much that everyone calls her a 'kook'.

"I am not a kook!"

Examples are like folding socks neatly by rolling the pair, folding the end of a cellotape after you've used it so you know where to pull for the next use, having the need to sleep on one particular side of the bed every single time, etc (you get the point).

Hence, I decided to do this post to prove we are all normal and adorable in our own annoying little way.

So open wide, here are mine.

  • If my bed is next to a wall, I will sleep facing the wall. If it's island, I will conquer the whole bed.
  • When I'm about to fall asleep, I absolutely can't have any parts of my body touching any parts of it, i.e. my palms on my tummy.
  • I insists on having two separate laundry; one for the whites and one for colours.
  • On Sunday mornings, I have my breakfast while reading the gossips pullout without brushing my teeth.
  • I use a strainer for soups that have visible shallots or leaves or spices.
  • So when I cook, I make sure I blend it all smoothly.
  • Am addicted to talcum powder, I make sure to whole body is covered (which explains my white dusty floors).
  • I take nasi lemak without the sambal cos I don't know how to eat the sambal (scared to try, more like it).
  • I use cotton buds on a daily basis, without fail.
  • Everytime P Ramlee's movies are shown, especially the ones when he was chubbier, I laugh like a madwoman and I memorised the lines.
  • I will go berserk (and probably have a heart attack) if a clown comes near me.
  • All my money notes have to be organised according to its amount in my wallet. RM1 notes together, RM5 notes together, RM10 notes together (you get the drift). I simply can't move around if this is not settled.
  • The same goes with my dishes. If you look at my dish rack, I must have the plates together, the mugs together, the cutleries together. There's no such thing as putting them on top of each other and create a Mount Everest out of it. No way.

People can call you weirdo and obsessed but I think it's kinda cute. So what's your freaky-deaky?

So. Knackered. To. The. Max.

*cough*

My blog is so dusty :(

Been so caught up with this 5days 24hrs event.

First, during the weekend, I was in charge of a workshop that consisted of 50 international delegates. Once that's done, had to prepare for a regional conference for 200 international and local delegates. First day was alright, was more involved taking care of the VIP. But at 5pm yesterday, I was instructed to be the emcee for today and tomorrow. Because of this, had to work the script until midnight and only managed to sleep at 2am cos had to iron baju kurung and tudung. Groggy la.

So just a short one, will upload the pics from tonight's Sparkling Dinner :)

The black box (used to be brown with small, sliding doors)

I'm not really a fan of the TV. Surely the occasional Raya movies and particular hilarious adult sitcoms, e.g. Friends, are rare and special occasions for me to watch the tv. But generally, no. I'd rather read. High possibility my family might be the only one that allowed us to read books during mealtimes. Heck, I didn't even had all those Nintendo, Gameboy or whatnot... Was not allowed but we had abundance of books though.

I guess I'm rather picky when it comes to television shows. I get dizzy when I channel-surf. I rather pick the shows that I really want to watch and wait for it to appear on the screen. With this, there's few shows that I feel worth watching and would like to share this with all of you.

Sitcoms - Laughter is the best medicine

F.R.I.E.N.D.S
I made sure I had a hu-u-ge mug like theirs and always ordered Pizza Hut Delivery, konon2 living in NY la :)
Whose Line is it Anyway?
Classic, pure laughter with tears.
Everybody loves Raymond
Lawak bangang with honest characters. Sangat hilarious.
The Nanny
Another classic, never bores me and all jokes are like fresh from the oven, as if you've never heard it padahal dah tengok a thousand times.
Others (watch them occasionally but can't be bothered to really follow, unless I have the DVD box set): Fairly Legal, Desperate Housewives, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, How I Met Your Mother, Will and Grace, Mr Bean, Malcolm in the middle, Dharma & Greg... just to name a few.

Closer to God - We're humans and we're always in need of Guidance

Reflections with Imam Suhaib Webb, TV Alhijrah
Love how he manages to relate the words of Allah in the Holy Quran to today's challenges and apply it perfect examples.
Semanis Kurma, TV9
Was mum's fave show. Husband and wife moderate this talk show, just effing cuteness!
30 minit Ustaz Don
Yes, I agree he does have that 'cute' appeal but he has successfully shows viewers on how to properly pronounce when reading the words of Allah, how to perfom prayers (e.g. how to bow properly for rukuk) and many more. He has made the 30minutes interesting and funny with raising issues that you never stop to think about.

Note: Notice how only three Islamic shows that I've mentioned? Sad right, we have a number of these programmes but sadly none are able to relate to today's modern-day challenges. But happy to credit TV Alhijrah for coming up with more and more interesting programmes!

Therefore, make the right choice when being in front of the tv. For daddy, news is enough to make him happy.
